In our pilot episode, we’re taking you inside the resurgent local oyster farming industry that is giving the Rhode Island economy a big boost, and giving local diners lots to cheer about as well. It’s no secret in chef circles that Rhode Island oysters are some of the best in the world, and are back on the menu in most of New England’s best restaurants.

Episode Overview:

We’ll start off our episode with a visit to Watch Hill Oysters, in Westerly, to spend a day with Jeff Gardner, one of the Ocean State’s most celebrated aquaculture pioneers, to learn all about oyster farming. We’ll follow his freshly harvested oysters to the Nordic Lodge, a world-famous, award-winning, all-you-can-eat seafood buffet hidden in the woods of Charlestown, for an epic feast at this hidden gem. Then we’ll visit Matunuck Oyster Bar, Rhode Island’s most celebrated seafood restaurant, for a tour of the oyster farm and the kitchen with owner Perry Raso and executive chef Jeff Cruff. Get ready for some serious slurpin’!
